Dr. Jonathan J. Schorn
Dr. Schorn attended elementary school in New Brighton, MN before moving to Mankato, MN at age 10 where he later graduated from Mankato West High School in 1991. After spending two years at Minnesota State University − Mankato he transferred to the University of Minnesota − Duluth where he graduated in 1995 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
That autumn he got married to his wife Tracy and moved to St. Louis, MO where he attended optometry school at the University of Missouri − St. Louis School of Optometry.
After graduating with his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1999 Dr. Schorn moved back to the Twin Cities and began his professional career working at Progressive Eye Care in St. Paul, MN. While there he gained extensive experience in Lasik co-management working with literally thousands of patients before and after going through their refractive surgery.
In 2004, Dr. Schorn joined the team at Apple Valley Eye Care where he transitioned to providing comprehensive family eye care services. Helping people of all ages with their unique vision needs continues to be very fulfilling for him. Loving the south metro area, when the opportunity to join Focused Eye Care as a partner arose he was able to finally realize his dream of private practice ownership.
Dr. Schorn joined the dedicated eye care team at Focused Eye Care in 2010 and enjoys helping his patients achieve their optimal vision through the use of glasses, contact lenses, refractive surgery, cataract surgery, corneal refractive therapy, glaucoma management, diabetic eye disease management, medical eye care, or simply comprehensive eye examinations.
Dr. Schorn is a participating provider for the InfantSee program, a national program sponsored by the American Optometric Association where children ages 6-12 months of age are encouraged to have a comprehensive eye exam. Any child in this age range can receive a comprehensive eye examination by Dr. Schorn at no charge in an attempt to catch any eye conditions early on that could hinder proper eye or visual system development leading to lazy eye and struggles that may prevent kids from succeeding once in school. Former President Jimmy Carter is the spokesperson for InfantSee as he has two grandchildren who suffer from eye problems that could have been caught through this program if it had been available at the time.
Dr. Schorn was named the Young Optometrist of the Year for 2010 by the Minnesota Optometric Association for his dedication to leading the optometric profession in Minnesota along with his civic involvement. He is very active in the Minnesota Optometric Association where he has been involved for 5 years as the legislative chair. He has met with legislators and policy makers both in St. Paul and in Washington, DC to advocate for patients rights to quality eye care services through their insurance plans. He continues to fight for optometrists’ rights to see all patients under the new health care reform system taking shape in Minnesota. He will serve as Vice President of the Minnesota Optometric Association during 2011 and is in line to serve as President in 2013.
Dr. Schorn has coached both of his daughters through the Eagan youth soccer program over the past 5 years and enjoys working with kids both in the office and in other settings. He has led the children’s choir at his church during Christmas time for several years running. "Those little angels are adorable!"
Dr. Schorn enjoys a wide variety of music and dancing. He is active in his church serving on the parish council and singing in the adult choir. Playing volleyball helps him hold onto his youth and keep in shape. Dr. Schorn also enjoys the outdoors and spending quality time with his family.
While Dr. Schorn likes to keep busy, he is never too busy to help you with your vision and eye care needs. He is available 24 hours a day if an eye emergency occurs and he is available 6 days a week for eye exams and urgent care appointments.
"I look forward to SEEING you the next time you have any eye care or vision needs!"
