Dr. Joel D. Sollom
Dr. Sollom moved around the Midwest and Northwest as a child and graduated from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. There he received his Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, and Anthropology. For his Doctorate degree he attended the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. During optometry school he headed many organizations, including the student government and Gold Key International Honor Society. He received numerous awards including Colleague of the Year and graduated with honors.
His internships in the Chicago area included ophthalmic surgical centers which incorporated developing pre and post operative care for the retina, cataract, and anterior segment surgeries, including refractive laser surgeries. He also entered an internship for an oculoplastic specialist for reconstructive and cosmetic pre and post operative surgery care. During his pediatric internship Dr. Sollom developed his skills (and fondness) for child and infant examinations and also became involved in the InfantSEE program. After graduation Dr. Sollom began working for several retail optical chains before founding and opening Focused Eye Care in 2007.
Dr. Sollom was honored with the Young Optometrist of the Year award from the Minnesota Optometric Association in 2009 for his work as Chair of the Eye Care Benefits Committee working to ensure you maintain the freedom to see the doctor of your choice for your eye care needs.
Dr. Sollom lives in Apple Valley with two daughters Ella and Olivia. You may find him enjoying the outdoors and seasonal activities around town. He enjoys hunting and is also always searching for great places to eat, so feel free to let him know your favorite restaurants.
